O Joaquin, what you do to me! Well, not really. That hurricane hasn’t actually gotten to Virginia at this writing. But we’ve had lots of rain, and many dreary days in a row. My California friends are holding back the crocodile tears, I’m sure.
Leaving our Thursday farmers market at the Great Big Greenhouse, we went exploring to find Strangeways Brewing. Our adventure turned a dull, wet, and cold day into a delight.
With a small afternoon crowd, we started talking about pimento cheese and how it can pair with craft beer. Strangeways offers a taster, and Bubba picked out about eight for us to try. Birdie’s is running a seasonal flavor just for October, Ghost Pepper. They had a beer that featured ghost pepper, and darned if you couldn’t taste that distinct flavor. No heat, not a novelty beer; truly artisanal.
We left with six packs of the Woodbooger and the Albino Monkey. I’m looking forward to discovering which of my pimento cheeses go best with each of their beers! Who wants to help?
Robin Allen is having a ball with all the possibilities of Pimento Cheese. She really loves being Birdie.
